Uniting Talent, Passion and Purpose: Ntokozo Myeni Under-15 Tournament Officially Launched

In a moment filled with pride, purpose, and community spirit, the much-anticipated Ntokozo Myeni Under-15 Tournament was officially launched at the Ngwelezane Civic Centre. The event drew local football lovers, community leaders, and development champions to witness the draw that set the stage for a grassroots tournament like no other.

With 14 local teams ready to battle it out on the field, the tournament carries a vision that transcends sport, it aims to nurture young talent, keep youth off the streets, and offer a platform for dreams to take flight.

Among the guests who graced the launch was legendary coach Nkosenhle “Nunuza” Ngema, a veteran in South African football development and former coach at both the Orlando Pirates Development Academy and the DStv Diski Challenge (Richards Bay FC). Also in attendance was Sfiso Ndlovu from the Department of Sports, Arts and Culture, King Cetshwayo District, and a representative from Old Mutual, reaffirming the value of public-private partnerships in youth development.

“This tournament is not just about football; it’s about shaping futures. Some of these boys will be scouted by coaches with a national footprint,” said Mr Sfiso Ndlovu, who also commended the organisers for their commitment to grassroots empowerment.

The tournament is named in honour of Ntokozo Myeni, a beloved sports fanatic and former sports presenter across various local and national radio stations, including a stint at a commercial radio station in Newcastle. His lifelong dedication to promoting local sport continues to inspire this new generation.

The games will be played at the Newfield grounds in Ngwelezane, where hundreds of spectators are expected to flock and support the teams. With this excitement comes an added benefit, economic spin-offs for local vendors and businesses, many of whom are preparing for a weekend of increased trade and community buzz.

As the tournament begins, the fields of Ngwelezane won’t just echo with the sound of football boots, they’ll carry the hopes of a generation ready to be seen, to be heard, and to rise.

Let the games begin.
