Bhasobha Manguxu: Ulundi’s Swenka Star Taking Rural Influencing to the Next Level

Talent Sphiwe Mlaba, better known online as Thikithy Khoza or Bhasobha Manguxu, is a 25-year-old from Nhlungwane, Ulundi whose style, confidence, and cultural pride have turned him into one of the most recognizable rural social media influencers in KwaZulu-Natal.

From his school days at Zwelelonke High Schoo,  where he studied alongside well-known names like Quality Biyela, Thikithy was already setting himself apart. He recalls how even back then, he loved fashion and being clean, something deeply connected to the Maskandi “Ingezo” tradition, which promotes neatness, self-care, and cultural pride. In Maskandi culture, being a “Swenka” (fashionista) and “Ukuchoma” (showing off) isn’t arrogance , it’s a way for a young man to express self-love, dignity, and respect for himself.

“Even in school, I’d change my shirt every month just to keep things fresh. Looking good is who I am,” he laughs.

That same Swenka style became his brand. Through social media, he began posting his fashion looks, clean style, and Maskandi-inspired outfits, quickly gaining a loyal following. His presence caught the attention of artists like Skhumba STS and Bheka Xaba, who encouraged him, gave him platforms, and even collaborated with him to showcase his signature look.

The breakthrough came when he secured an endorsement with PA Clothing Brand – not just receiving clothes, but actual paid deals. For Thikithy, that was proof that rural influencers can play in the same league as their urban counterparts.

“This thing of social media influencing can be done anywhere. Yes, sometimes I go to Joburg to push content, but I always come back to Ulundi. This is home.”

His work goes beyond just fashion. Thikithy uses his platform to highlight tourism and local gems in Ulundi, from hotels to pubs, including one spot many didn’t even know offered accommodation. His content has not only attracted visitors from outside Ulundi but has also inspired locals to explore and appreciate their own town.

Technology plays a big role too. He invests in a quality phone to make sure his photos and videos are sharp, helping the social media algorithms push his content further.

In 2025, he stepped into a new chapter, MCing. His debut was at Mkhulekelwa’s event in Pimville, sharing the stage with big names. Now, he’s gearing up to be an MC at the annual Let’s Dance Basadi event, where he’ll bring together his hosting skills, Swenka fashion, and cultural flair.

Thikithy says his friendship with Skhumba STS is a win-win: Skhumba opens doors for him, and in return, his own strong following gives Skhumba more reach.

From a young boy in rural Ulundi changing shirts every month to keep his style sharp, to a paid influencer, MC, and tourism promoter, Bhasobha Manguxu is proof that you can build a brand, inspire a community, and make it big, all while staying true to your roots.
