INTERNSHIP PROGRAMME TAKES OFF-RBIDZ ONBOARDS NEW TALENT

The Richards Bay Industrial Development Zone recently welcomed a new cohort of talented young professionals, who join the company for the Internship programme, intended to provide practical training and industry-specific skills.

Aligning with the governments’ call to prioritise skills development and equipping youth with the knowledge required to access employment opportunities; the Internship programme forms part of the RBIDZ’s strategies aimed towards empowering youth.

The opportunity also prioritises the inclusion of youth in mainstream economy in addition to stimulating and building the capacity of skilled people for opportunities to come, particularly with the developments that are taking shape within the RBIDZ. The young hopefuls enrolled in a 24–months programme within the Zone are being mentored and coached by seasoned and upcoming industry professionals representing different career disciplines.

The programme has over the years yielded pleasing results, where the RBIDZ has witnessed a number of these young professionals rising within the ranks, not only in RBIDZ but in other companies outside of RBIDZ. This validates the significance of the programme and commitment from the RBIDZ towards job creation, and building a skilled and capable community.

As a collective, the new intake expressed gratitude towards the RBIDZ for availing the opportunity, which paves direction for their careers, and harness their knowledge in different career disciplines being law, marketing, communications, human resources, electrical engineering, monitoring and evaluation, business development, environmental management and safety management.

“We would like to learn and grow in the industry and partake in projects and initiatives that support the mandate of the company. The Internship programme means a lot to us and is a great step for us to break ground and release our potential, as it all begins now,” the new employees exclaimed with excitement.

“To this end, the RBIDZ is playing a crucial role in stimulating job creation and advancing skills through various programmes and projects originating from investment and infrastructure projects among others, and advocates for more development initiatives in light of the programmes’ effectiveness in bridging the unemployment gaps.
