Over 40 local entrepreneurs and startups in Empangeni walked away today with more than just certificates, they gained practical business knowledge, renewed confidence, and a stronger foundation for growth. This follows a powerful business management training programme delivered by Services SETA at the Empangeni SMME One Stop Shop using their innovative Mobile Training Truck on the Go.
The initiative aimed to uplift and support small businesses by offering intensive training on the core principles of running a successful enterprise. The one-day workshop covered six essential modules:
Entrepreneurial Context and Models
Legislation and Regulations for Small and Emerging Businesses
Entrepreneurial Mindset
Entrepreneurial Skills
Financial Literacy, Pricing and Costing
Sales and Marketing Skills
For many participants, this was more than just a workshop, it was a stepping stone toward accessing funding, mentorship, and formal business networks. The certificate of completion serves as credible proof that these entrepreneurs understand both the operational and strategic side of business, a crucial advantage when applying to institutions like NYDA, SEDFA, and private investors.
“As a new business owner, I’ve always had the passion but not the technical knowledge. Today’s training gave me clarity on costing, marketing, and staying compliant with business laws,” said one local participant. “It’s a game changer.”
The Services SETA Mobile Training Programme continues to play a pivotal role in closing the knowledge gap for township and rural entrepreneurs who may not have easy access to formal business education.
By decentralising training and taking it directly to communities, this initiative aligns with South Africa’s broader goal of developing a thriving, inclusive entrepreneurial ecosystem, especially in underserved regions like uMhlathuze Local Municipality.
As small businesses form the backbone of the local economy, programmes like these are a vital investment in the future.
