Ngwelezane Township was also effected by the riots that was happening in the past few days which were incited by the arrest of the Former President of South Africa, Jacob Zuma.
A group of looters took advantage of the protest and broke into the Liquor stores and supermarkets at the commercial area in Ngwelezane, those businesses are owned by the Chinese and Somalians. Engine fuel station was also demaged.
All the locally owned businesses that are operating at the commercial area were not looted or damaged in anyhow.
During the clean up campaign which as led by the locally owned businesses, there was a call of forming a local business conglomerate that will go into partnership with the Non South African businesses which are operating in Ngwelezane.
