In 2001 Pioneer Foods sold Majority Stake of Nulaid Eggs to its African employees. A group of 5 employees bought the stake of the company. In 2008 they gained 100% ownership of the company from Pioneer Foods. “It better to be in control of our own destination” Seo Mtetwa taking us through the decision that made them take ownership and control of the whole operation. Today the company is growing from strength to strength creating 187 employment opportunities, making Nu Dawn Eggs one of the few biggest employers in oKhahlamba Local Municipality and Kwa Zulu Natal at large.
Despite the challenges, Seo Mtetwa believes that they have a healthy competition with other commercial poultry farmers. “We are competing with other main egg producers pound to pound interms of compliance” explains Seo Mtetwa. They audited by Food Safety Auditors.
They service whole of KZN and part of Easterm Cape up to emtata. They have a depot in Durban, one in Kokstad and the heard quarters are in Winterton where grading and packaging is done. They also supply wholesalers and retail chain stores.
